Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek is one of the most iconic and beginner friendly Himalayan trails in Uttarakhand. The journey starts from Sari village and climbs through dense forests, wide ridges and peaceful camps. The trail offers a perfect mix of nature, mythology and huge snow peak views, especially Chaukhamba, Kedarnath Dome and Mandani ⛰️.
Deoriatal is the first highlight, a calm lake that reflects the giant Chaukhamba massif during early mornings. The forest section from Deoriatal to Chopta feels magical with oak, rhododendron and pine trees surrounding you. In spring the trail bursts with pink and red rhododendrons. Winter covers everything in fresh snow ❄️ and turns it into a beautiful white wonderland.
The final climb to Chandrashila Peak is the star moment. Sunrise from the summit shows more than 30 Himalayan peaks glowing in orange light. It is one of the best sunrise points in Uttarakhand. The trek stays safe, smooth and perfect for families, beginners and anyone wanting a peaceful yet powerful Himalayan experience.
Reach Sari village and settle into your homestay. Spend the evening exploring the village, checking gear and preparing for the trek. Walk around the farms and enjoy views of the valley. Meet your guide for a briefing about the route, weather and safety. Rest early for the next day.
Start trekking after breakfast. The trail is short but climbs steadily through oak forests. Reach Deoriatal by early afternoon and enjoy the calm lake with its perfect reflection of Chaukhamba. Explore the lakeside, click photos and relax in the peaceful setting. Overnight camping beside the forest with a star filled sky.
This is a long and scenic forest walk. Move through dense oak, rhododendron and pine trees with clearings that open to big mountain views. Cross Rohini Bugyal and enjoy long meadows and ridges. Reach Chopta by evening and settle into your camp. The campsite stays quiet with views of the Kedarnath range.
Begin before sunrise for the final summit push. The trail climbs gradually past Tungnath Temple and then rises sharply to Chandrashila Peak. Sunrise from the top looks unreal with dozens of peaks glowing orange. Spend time exploring before descending back to Chopta. Relax for the evening at your campsite.
After breakfast, drive or walk back to Sari depending on your travel plan. Spend some time exploring the village and collecting final photos. Depart with enough time to reach your next destination. The morning in Chopta stays fresh and peaceful, giving a perfect end to the trek.
The trek is easy to moderate with smooth forest trails and gradual climbs. The only steep section is the final push to Chandrashila Peak, but it is manageable with breaks. The route stays safe for beginners, families and casual trekkers. Good shoes, warm layers and a steady pace make the experience comfortable.
Winter gives snowy forests and a full white landscape. Spring brings bright rhododendron flowers and clear skies. Autumn provides sharp visibility and golden light, which is amazing for photography. All seasons work well except peak monsoon when the trail becomes slippery and clouded. Sunrise views are best from October to April.
Camping is done near the designated forest area close to Deoriatal, not directly beside the water. This protects the lake ecosystem and keeps the space clean. Trekkers can explore the lakeside throughout the day and enjoy sunset views before returning to the campsite. The lake area stays peaceful and well maintained.
Chandrashila offers one of the widest Himalayan panoramas in Uttarakhand. You can see Chaukhamba, Kedarnath Dome, Mandani, Jaonli, Bandarpoonch and several other peaks in a clear 360 degree view. Sunrise lights up every peak in warm golden tones. It is one of the most beautiful and rewarding summit points for beginners.
A guide is recommended for navigation, forest safety and reaching the summit on time for sunrise. Winter snow can hide the trail at many points, and the forest sections have multiple paths. Local guides also help with permits, campsites and weather updates. They ensure a smooth, safe and comfortable experience overall.
